JNTU-K committed to imparting quality education, says V-C

‘Hopes the institution will be among top 100 varsities by 2015'

KAKINADA: Vice-Chancellor of JNTU-Kakinada Allam Appa Rao has expressed the hope that the university will be among the top 100 universities of the world by 2015.

Presenting his report at the first convocation on Sunday, Prof. Appa Rao said that the university was the face of value-driven technological education in India. He claimed that JNTU-K was the second largest technological university in the world with an annual intake of some 0.1 million students from 280 engineering, pharmacy and management colleges spread over eight districts in coastal Andhra. He said that JNTU-K was committed to imparting quality education for all-round development of its pupil.

Prof. Appa Rao said that the university was endeavouring to tie up with other universities. Similarly, prestigious universities in Asia, America, England and Sweden were seeking collaborations with JNTU-K. He said that the philosophy of JNTU-K was that a university should reflect universalism and that global universities were not for comparison or competition but for collaboration and cooperation.

He said they were offering three international PG programmes and a few more integrated programmes would commence from July 2011. JNTU-K opened its gates to international students in 2010 and 50 foreign students belonging to six countries joined the university.

More would join the two constituent colleges at Kakinada and Vizianagaram by 2012, he added.He said that sports, science and technology and health related PG programmes would be launched shortly.

Dual degree PG programmes in civil, mechanical and electrical engineering would also be offered.Prof. Appa Rao presented 15 Ph.Ds and 33 gold medals at the convocation.
