Worrying news for students 250 colleges lack PCI recognition

Here is some worrying news for students looking to take admissions into pharmacy colleges in the state: Of the 300 pharmacy colleges in the state, only 50 are recognised by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI).

Students who pass out of colleges that are not recognised by the PCI do not get the licence to practice as pharmacists in the country. They also face problems in pursuing higher studies abroad.

As per PCI norms, a college must have at least 12 laboratories, machine rooms, 16 professors, a director and a green belt in the institute.

The students who pass out from PCI-recognised colleges have a registration number printed on their certificate. However, students from the non-recognised colleges are not given certificates with the registration numbers.

“We have written to all the colleges to immediately seek PCI approval. The universities have been asked to find out the status of each college and prepare a list. The details will be made public,” said Prof. Jayaprakash Rao, chairman, AP State Council of Higher Education.
