WHAT began in 1984 as a private engineering college has evolved into a technical university offering graduate and postgraduate courses in six schools and boasts of over 14,000 students.
The engineering school, the oldest, is very well recognised. Accredited by leading national and international bodies, the university has a good placement record.
About the scholarship
The VIT University’s IGNITE Scholarships allows top scholars from around the country to leap forward without worrying about financial hurdles. It is offered to all students who appear for the VIT Engineering Entrance Examination and score very high marks.
The scholarships come at three levels:
a) 100% tuition fee for toppers of each state in their State Board Exams for all the 4 years.
b) 75% fee waiver for students who are ranked from 1 to 50 on an all-India basis.
c) 50 % fee waiver for students with 51 to 100 rank on an all-India basis.
Value of the Fellowship
The fellowship covers only the tuition fee for the college. The students have to bear the cost of board and lodging, as well as any other expenses involved.

SRM UNIVERSITY
SRM University also emerged out of an engineering college, SRM Engineering college, set up in 1985. Gaining Deemed University status in 2006, it now has over 20,000 students and 1,500 faculty, offering a wide range of undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in Engineering, Management, Medicine and Health Sciences, and Science and Humanities. The university boasts of close collaboration with foreign universities and the student population is quite diverse with over 80% of students coming from outside Tamil Nadu. About the Scholarship
The university offers two different scholarships with varying levels of benefits. It is primarily offered to those students who appear for the national-level entrance examination conducted by the university - SRM Engineering Entrance Examination (SRMEEE).
a) Founder’s Scholarship
A prestigious programme, here the institute offers the holders not only full tuition fee waiver, but also free board and lodging along with a stipend of Rs. 1,000 every month.

AMITY UNIVERSITY
A leading private university in north India, Amity grew out a Business School set up in 1995. The engineering, law and other schools followed suit and it gained a State private university status in 2005. It has campuses in Nodia, Lucknow and Gurgaon and Jaipur. The institute follows a rolling admissions policy. The students eligible for scholarship do not need to appear for any entrance exam. They are admitted under the “Fast Track” mode and their admissions are based on their application followed by an interview.

VEL TECH TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY
A very young technical university, this too emerged out of an engineering college, and obtained deemed University status in 2009. Located in Chennai, the university primarily focuses on engineering discipline and offers both Bachelor’s and Master’s programmes.
It has recently begun to offer PhD programmes as well. A well-endowed campus, over 50 laboratories, and 300-plus faculty members constitute the institutional backbone. The college when it was affiliated to the Anna University had the reputation of producing quite a few university rank holders. The engineering school is accredited by NBA, the autonomous agency of AICTE.
