40 per cent students Intermediate supplementary exams

The pass percentage in the Intermediate examinations this year crossed 80 per cent after the announcement of Advanced Supplementary exams results. However, only 40 per cent students cleared the supplementary exams, the results of which were announced here on Saturday.

The Board of Intermediate Education (BIE) Secretary, A. Vani Prasad said that 3,03,822 students appeared for the exams of which only 1,21,540 students passed, recording a pass percentage of just 40. Girls fared better than boys with a pass percentage of 42.20 while it was 37.77 per cent in the case of boys.

She said students can collect marks memos from respective colleges after June 29 and any discrepancies should be brought to the notice of the BIE before July 25. Applications received after the due date will not be considered. Students interested in recounting and re-verification of answer scripts can apply before July 2. They have to pay the fees of Rs 100 per paper for recounting and Rs 600 per paper for supply of photo copy and re-verification of answer scripts.

The BIE Secretary said that there has been improvement in the evaluation of answer scripts this year. This year about 36,000 students applied for re-verification and marks changed in the case of only 1,800 students of which majority of the cases had a variation of less than 5 marks. However, there was a variation of up to 10 marks in the case of about 300 students and this is an issue that needs some concern. “We will rectify such mistakes in future by improving the evaluation process,” she said.
